This friend -- the knight -- sounds like he is suffering from a broken heart and I'm not sure how to advise him.

Well if the knight is getting his lance bent out of shape for someone who's not all in, that's what he needs to figure first.

It's possible he might have not been the one to kiss whoever-it-was-he-kissed. Then there's the whole Halloween affair which had some impact on people's physical and mental states.
