Before you commit to liking someone, you should figure out if you can be their friend first. Do you have similar interests? Do you laugh at the same things?

Find out what food he likes and invite him to get some. Then ask him about himself. If it turns out you both don't have much in common, at least you'll both enjoy the meal.
