Perfectly Suited

Tony Stark was too old to play games. Every time he ran hot and cold with his partner was never a calculated power play so much as a deeply embedded habit built around mitigating whatever anxiety he’d built up. Even the old days full of ninja crawling out of bed just to avoid the morning after spiel were motivated by the intimidation (in part) of having them at all.

He’d gotten better at that part, though. Far better. Tony was curled up on the side of the long-suffering pink couch that wasn’t bearing a warped arm rest caused by some make-up rapporto sessuale from earlier in the evening, followed by a shower and the ceremonial poptart.

“You know—“ Tony brushed off some crumbs from his dark sweater, “You are terrible for my diet.”

"Thor...~" Tony sang softly, nodding for him to scoot closer.

"Hm?"

Thor complies, lifting Tony's legs so he can slide further beneath them.

As Thor drew closer, Tony's legs slid down to hug his waist and his hands indulgently cupped the curving musculature of Thor's arms.

"Never have I known a finer pair of biceps than those that sit upon my tender beautiful cavalier."

Thor grins with pride.

"I," he declares with his usual bombast, "have never had a cuter boyfriend, and I have had many."

And then, before Tony can protest, he quickly adds:

"Or handsome. You are handsome, too."

"Do you, now." Tony raised an eyebrow. "Because you don't have a boyfriend."

"Well, I've never had a fiancee, so it's pretty hard to compare you to nothing," he says. "Father expected me to marry Asgardian. Gave Jane and I a hard time the entire time she was there. I can only imagine how he'd react if we ever actually got engaged."

Tony somehow managed not to roll his eyes. He'd been called a sissy boy by his own father enough that he'd almost pay to see the look on the man's face when he broke the news that gay marriage was legalized and that he was endeavoring to be an enthusiastic statistic.

"I want to make memories. Good ones."

"We've already made good memories," Thor points out, tapping a few fingers on Tony's knee. "I'm sure will make plenty more."

Especially with the wedding.

"We still need to figure out what we're going to do with your hair," Thor says. "It's one of the most important parts of the wedding." Thor's hair is woefully short; he doesn't have the slightest idea what he'll do with it. But Tony's --

Tony squinted as he ran his hands up to hook behind Thor's neck. "...Besides gelling it."

"Rock crystals, flowers, clover, garland, usually woven into your hair or fashioned into a crown," he says. "Hair is an important part of my culture." Hence why Thor kept his hair long, as did his brother, despite not being Asgardian himself.

Tony made a show of considering it before shaking his head. “Yeah...yeah I don’t see me pulling that off.”

"I think it'd look good on you," Thor says, reaching out to run his hand through Tony's hair. It is truly nice. "I could try fashioning a crown for the both of us or else get someone to help."

"...You think so." Tony murmured. He knew how deeply Thor appreciated hair, and he'd already nixed several traditions outright...

"I don't think so." Thor gives Tony's scalp a single itch. "I know so."

Tony's eyes fluttered shut almost all the way as Thor's large fingers massaged his scalp. "Nothing too heavy. I get neck tension."

Thor is intentionally more gentle after that, his fingers light on Tony's head.

"You not feeling well?"

[st_arkravinghazelnut]

"No, no, this--" Tony bunted his head into Thor's fingers, "--Is great. I'm talking about the crown or the hair decs. Do me up however you like as long as it's not heavier than my skull."

"Oh," Thor says in sudden realization. It takes only an instant after that for the grin to take over the lower half of his face.

He hadn't expected Tony to agree, let alone agree so easily.

"Do you have any wedding requests?"

“Besides a shared promise not to go Groomzilla?” Tony squeezed the back of Thor’s neck a few times imploringly. “I’m serious. I want every part of it to be a memory worth remembering.”

Thor leans back into Tony's hand.

"No tuxedo? No best man? No vows?" There's not much that Thor knows about Midgardian weddings. All he had gleaned he had gleaned from Jane's sister's wedding and the movies he bingewatched with Darcy.

“Yes, undecided, yes.” Tony yawned—any concrete planning was far above his current mental pay grade. “Look...I know this has all been moving quick. Most would consider it quick.”

"It is pretty quick," Thor agrees, if you disregard the ten years they spent as teammates and friends. But with half of the universe obliterated from his timeline and Tony Stark dead even before it, Thor saw little reason to wait if Tony didn't.

They didn't know how much time they had here. They might as well make the most of it.

Tony slowly swept his hands around to cup the larger man’s cheeks. His body was stiff to relax in a sigh. His lips pulled into a half-smile.

“...That’s what we are. You know. After we go. Memories. Stories.”

"I'm not going to forget you," Thor tells him, setting his hand over Tony's. "Even if we weren't together like this. Even if you weren't here."

A tendril of deep affection curled through his body, warming him. He could have smacked himself for trying to let this go just days before. Drawing Thor down, Tony claimed his lips. Words seemed cheap.

“Thank god I am.” He murmured, swapping breath.
